Share & Imagine

Yesterday, I passed a marquee that asked the reader to "Imagine" a better world and then see your place in it.  I immediately thought of John Lennon and his poetic lyrics that still resonate in my heart and thoughts today as much as I'm sure it does in yours.

With the blog wheels turning and my list of potential blogs at the ready, I googled "John Lennon and Social Media" to see who else had thought of this profound combination.  Not too surprisingly, I found pages of blogs and videos reverberating this idea.

And why not?  Social media connects the world at large and not just portions of it.  Earlier this year, when pro-democratic Egyptians cried out for change, the rest of the world read about it on Twitter or Facebook within mere moments.  The act was also immediately visible through platforms like YouTube.

And when these words and pictures can cause an existing government to deny this basic freedom of reaching out, we realize the real potential of social media.  We share, we connect.  When we share through social media, we collaboratively imagine a world that's connected.

Today is a great day to share ideas, connect people, and improve the world we live in.  Before you head off to imagine that world of tomorrow, consider watching my son sing about "Yesterday".
